Although the treatment of mental illness has advanced, society’s thinking about this subject has not advanced much. There are many myths about mental illness and all the people that endure it:
That mental illness and mental retardation are one and the same.
That recovery from mental illness is impossible.
That a person suffering from a mental illness is a second rate worker.
That a person suffering from a a psychiatric disability cannot tolerate stress at work.
That these individuals are always unpredictable and violent; when in actual fact, this might be true of only a few people who are not taking their prescribed medication.
