In a dilapidated, small brick house, far from the village, lived a young man who was mentally impaired. The villagers watched him fill his tattered bag with discarded items and scraps of food every day. Their children sneered at him and the older villagers looked down on him and scolded their children if they so much as approached him.
One day, the villagers discovered that the young man had passed away. They assumed that he had died alone. When one of them went to his house to investigate, he was surprised and shocked to find the deceased man’s parents bed-ridden and all alone in the secluded hovel.
The shock of this discovery brought them to their senses. They realized that the young man who they had ignored for so long despite his mental and physical impairments, had been a devoted son, taking care of his sick and bedridden parents until the day he died. And, he had done this without any help from the villagers .In death, this young man had taught the villagers a valuable lesson.
We must not make assumptions about others, for sometimes, the most caring individuals, are those we would never suspect of having those feelings.
